We Become What We Behold
About We Become What We Behold
We Become What We Behold is a short yet powerful point-and-click experience about media influence, viral moments, and the dangerous cycles of outrage. In just five minutes, you use a camera to capture small events - and watch how society reacts.
Squares and circles wander the screen, living their ordinary lives. But once you choose what to photograph and broadcast, everything changes. The message is clear: we shape the media, and the media shapes us.
How to Play We Become What We Behold
Your only action is taking photos. Aim your camera at characters walking around and click to capture a moment. The image is then displayed publicly on a central TV screen for everyone to see.
What you choose to highlight influences how the population behaves. Seemingly small moments can spark massive social reactions.

Characters and Social Reactions
At first, you’ll see “normal peeps” - simple square and circle characters. But among them are a few distinct personalities that drive the game’s social commentary.
The Fancy Man with the Hat
Photographing him makes hats suddenly fashionable. Soon, everyone wants one. But when hats become too common, the trend quickly collapses.
The Couple in Love
Capture their affection, and public attention turns to shame. Love fades from the streets as negativity attracts more attention than harmony.
The Angry Person
Photograph anger at the right moment - especially mid-yell - and chaos escalates. Fear spreads. Squares and circles begin to distrust each other.
Once hatred appears and characters turn red, division intensifies. If you continue broadcasting conflict, society spirals into a violent climax.
And yes — photographing crickets does absolutely nothing.
