Trees Hate You is a short but extremely challenging platformer. You play as a hiker who just wants to leave the forest. But every tree in your path wants to stop you. They punch. They kick. They shoot. They trap. Some even pull out guns.

Walking through the forest feels like going to war

This isn't a peaceful stroll in nature. This is a "rage" game, a genre designed to hilariously annoy the player. Every death will make you scream and laugh at the same time.

The game starts simply. You walk to the right and jump over a tree trunk. But very quickly, a seemingly normal tree suddenly extends a branch and punches you back to the starting line. That's when you realize the entire forest is your enemy.

Key Features

• Attacking Trees. Each tree has a sensor zone. Stepping into that zone will cause the tree to attack. Some punch. Some shoot bullets. Some teleport you. Each tree is a unique trap.
• Heavy Physics. The character has inertia. You can't stop instantly. This inertia makes dodging harder, as trees can attack the moment you're sliding forward.
• "Anger-inducing" Design. The game is designed to annoy you in a fun way. Fake checkpoints. Surprise attacks. Traps explode a second after you think you're safe. Perfect for streamers and anyone who likes to yell at the screen.

How to Play Trees Hate You

The goal is simple. Go to the end of the forest. You start at the campsite. You need to find your way out. Along the way there are progress-saving checkpoints, so you don't have to start over every time you die.

• You move. You jump. You die. You learn. You try again.

The game uses a "try and die" mechanism. You won't pass most traps the first time. That's intentional. Each death teaches you the location of a trap. Next time you know how to avoid it.

There are trees that look like ground but aren't. There are branches that look safe, but aren't. There are checkpoints that look like rewards but could be traps.

Controls

• Move left/right: A and D or Left/Right arrow keys
• Jump: Spacebar or W or Up arrow

Reset after death:

• Press R on the keyboard.
• Or press the Restart button on the screen.

The current demo doesn't have a fast-forward feature. Just move and jump. That's it. And a whole forest wants you dead.

Tips to win: Trust No Tree

1. Lure the tree to attack first

Slowly approach the tree until it starts preparing to strike. Immediately back away. Let the tree punch the air. After it slips, there's a brief period where the tree can't attack again. That's your chance to run through.

2. Look at the leaf color

Trees with red or dark leaves are usually high-danger zones. Approach them as if they're holding guns. Because it's very likely they are.

3. Look upwards

Not all dangers are at eye level. There are branches falling from above. There are trees shooting bullets at an angle. Observe the entire screen, not just your feet.

5. Be patient

Don't rush. Each death takes you back to the nearest checkpoint. Take your time. Lure one tree at a time. Rushing will trigger three traps at once.

6. Laugh every time you die

This is a rage game. You'll die in stupid and unfair ways. That's what makes it fun. If you're frustrated, take a deep breath. The trees want you to get frustrated. Don't let them win.
